DON EVARISTO
Don Evaristo, He was born in Ambato, city of the country
Ecuador in 1912.
We all know or at least have heard of this character.
His unforgettable name resonates in the collective memory;
however, do we know who it really was? The new generations remember him more
for the caricature of the good-natured chubby man with a mustache that gave
positive messages, transmitted as propaganda from the Municipality of Quito in
the 90's. The younger ones don't even recognize it.
Personified by the brilliant Quito artist Ernesto Albán
Mosquera, "Don Evaristo" achieved great fame and walked his
sympathetic figure throughout the country representing the famous
"Estampas Quiteñas" -many of them written by Pedro Jorge Vera-, in
which he cheerfully it dealt with the different moments of national events.
His voice served as an indispensable counterpoint to the
misfortunes of daily life in our country.
Albán knew how to capture the political reality that
afflicted; He took his message all the way through Ecuador, not with
lamentations but with humor.
Through his comic texts, the manners intention with which he
was born was transformed into an unscrupulous political buffoonery, a
censorship with courage and precision of the errors of the current regimes.
Evaristo was an actor in Ecuador, but the best city to
be recognized is Quito.
He became the symbol of Quito, he was a great
character.
